Overview

Master of Science (M.Sc.) degree in Geopolitics and International Relations is designed to generate an in-depth understanding of world politics and approach international affairs with scientific rigor. The program focuses on developing interdisciplinary perspectives in areas such as geopolitics and global security, critical technologies and resources, defense and diplomacy, among others, and offers a wide array of opportunities in academia, public service, media and international business. The courses involved in the program encompass theories of Geopolitics and International Relations; the fundamentals of India’s foreign policy and national security; international and regional organizations, multilateralism and negotiation strategies; and domains such as science and technology, counter-terrorism, nuclear and environmental security, and media and public diplomacy, to name a few. The program also offers focus courses in specific areas such as science diplomacy, foreign policy analysis, outer space, cyberspace, and geopolitical risk analysis.

The graduates pursue careers in Teaching and academic research in universities, Policy research in think tanks, Risk analysis in corporate firms, Media etc.

Program Objectives

 
  • Develop the next generation of youth in India who can critically examine and articulate India’s interests and strategies in the changing geopolitical landscape.                                                                                                                                                                   
  • Train students to apply scientifically rigorous research methods in the field of Geopolitics and International Relations to develop a well-informed, analytical worldview based on nuanced understanding of the world.                                                                                                           
  • Inculcate the latest and emerging developments in the field of geopolitics with a special focus on its interconnections with cutting edge technological advancements, science diplomacy, critical and strategic resources, environmental security, energy transition and sustainability challenges as well as political risk management.                                                                                                           
  • Foster interdisciplinary and multi-disciplinary academic inquiry and research by integrating insights from politics and international relations, fundamental and applied sciences and engineering, economics, sociology, and law, ensuring a holistic perspective on global challenges and solutions.                                                                 
  • Prepare students for deep academic research and career in policy analysis and consultancy in governmental, intergovernmental and non-governmental institutions, private institutions, industry, business and media.                                                                                     
  • Offer opportunities for networking and professional development at the global level.

Eligibility

The eligibility for the program is a pass with a Bachelor's Degree in any discipline from a recognized university, with minimum 50% aggregate marks or equivalent. 

Duration of the program

The duration of the M.Sc. program is four semesters of sixteen weeks duration each, spread across two years. A student may avail themselves of an exit option at the end of the second semester towards a Postgraduate Diploma upon successful completion of requisite credits. The M.Sc. degree is awarded upon successful completion of all required criteria and credits in a chosen domain after four semesters.
