Report on Guest Lecture on Impact of Concept Map on Learning

As part of the Effective Alumni Engagement, a highly informative and engaging guest lecture was organized for the First Year MSc Nursing Students on the Impact of Concept Maps on Learning. The session was organized by the Department of Fundamentals of Nursing, Manipal College of Nursing, MAHE, Manipal on April 10th between 10.30 am and 12.30 pm. The session was led by Dr Manju Avinash Nair, Assistant Professor, RAK College of Nursing, RAK Medical and Health Sciences University, Ras Al Khaimah who provided valuable insights into the transformative role of concept mapping in nursing education.

The speaker began by highlighting the significance of concept mapping in nursing education, emphasizing its role in organizing and visualizing complex information, which is crucial for both students and educators. She outlined various types of concept maps, such as hierarchical, spider, and flowchart models, and illustrated how each type can be effectively applied within nursing contexts using relevant, real-world examples.

The session was attended by 21 enthusiastic first-year MSc Nursing students, all of whom actively participated in the discussion and posed insightful questions. Moreover, this initiative strongly aligns with Sustainable Development Goal 4: Quality Education, by promoting innovative and inclusive educational practices that foster critical thinking and improve learning outcomes.

This guest lecture successfully demonstrated the power of concept mapping in enhancing both teaching and learning experiences, making it a valuable addition to the department’s efforts in fostering a dynamic and forward-thinking learning environment.
