Revels Cup ’26 Kicks Off with a Grand Inaugural Ceremony at MIT.

Manipal Institute of Technology (MIT), Manipal, inaugurated Revels Cup ’26 with a vibrant and spirited ceremony at the MIT Basketball Court on Sunday,22nd Feb 2026. Organized by the Office of the Associate Director (Student Welfare) and the Student Council, MIT, the event marked the official commencement of the institute’s premier inter-school sporting competition.

The symbolic torch-lighting ceremony set an inspiring tone for the competition, celebrating sportsmanship and unity among students. This was followed by the flag-hoisting ceremony, signifying the formal opening of the much-anticipated sports fest.

The Chief Guest for the event was Sharath Kamal, Padma Shri and Khel Ratna awardee and former captain of the Indian table tennis team. In his keynote address, he emphasized discipline, passion, and resilience as the cornerstones of sporting excellence. Reflecting on his journey, he shared that patience and consistent practice from the age of four shaped his career. Waking up at 5:30 a.m. daily and dedicating over 25 years to rigorous training enabled him to compete at the highest levels, including the Under-14 category, and to become a national champion for ten consecutive years. His inspiring words electrified the audience and motivated the athletes preparing to compete throughout the tournament. He encouraged students to cultivate patience and perseverance in their pursuit of excellence.

The event also featured Narayan Sabhahit, Pro Vice Chancellor (Technology & Science), Manipal Academy of Higher Education, Manipal, as the Guest of Honour and was presided over by Anil Rana, Director of MIT Manipal, who motivated students to uphold the institute’s rich legacy of athletic excellence. The oath-taking ceremony, led by student representatives, reaffirmed the participants’ commitment to fair play and sportsmanship.
With the torch lit and the flag raised, MIT Manipal now looks forward to days filled with competitive spirit, camaraderie, and outstanding athletic performances.
